Thiruvalla: The 8th Edition of BarCamp Kerala (BCK8) will be held on March 28, 2010 (Sunday) at the Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies (MACFAST) in Thiruvalla. BarCamp is an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.
BarCamp is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees. Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join. BarCamps are unconferences, which mean there are no spectators, only participants. There are no registration fees or any charges for a BarCamp as this is a user-generated conference. According to one of the organisers, “It’s really unique the way it is organised - everything is done online with no expenses for anyone except for the food which is personal.” The venue is usually sponsored by the host.
Kerala has the distinction of conducting the most number of BarCamps in India in a year for the last 2 years. 87 persons have already registered for the next BarCamp. The previous edition of BarCamp Kerala (BCK7) was held on 20 December, 2009 at the Kristu Jyoti College of Management and Technology in Chetipuzha near Changanasery. BCK7 saw about 100 enthusiasts - entrepreneurs, IT professionals, students and business mentors, coming together on a common platform to share their views and experiences.
