e-Declaration Facility at Walayar Likely from May 2012

e-Declaration Facility at Walayar Likely from May 2012

Some of the measures introduced by the Kerala Commercial Taxes Department to decongest and modernize the check-posts at the State’s borders, such as the e-declaration facility at Walayar, video camera surveillance at major border check-posts, and shifting of the out-counter at Walayar check-post towards Palakkad, are likely to materialize soon.

According to Susan Billa, Commercial Taxes Commissioner, the e-declaration facility succesfully tried out at the Amaravila check-post, would be launched at Walayar early next financial year. This facility would reduce transit time as drivers will not have to queue up to get clearance.

The Unique Identity Number provided to anyone who makes an e-declaration will be verified by tax officers at the spot where the vehicle is and a receipt will be issued from a hand-held device.

The Department has also identified a location for shifting the out-counter at Walayar towards Palakkad to decongest the check-post. The new counter will be ready for commissioning in five to six months.

The department also plans to install video surveillance cameras at all major check-posts soon to track congestion on a real-time basis and take up remedial measures.
