Technopark Trivandrum will host the first South Asia Satellite of the IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference (GHTC-SAS) during August 23 and 24, 2013.
GHTC is a flagship conference of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) that aims at promoting “science, engineering, and technology as keys to the development of solutions for humanity” and also fostering the “exchange of information, cooperation, and collaboration in pursuing solutions for humanitarian challenges worldwide.”
The GHTC-SAS conference will address the dominant “Developmental Challenges” and seek to bring together different constituencies ranging from engineers, researchers, and technologists to civil society organizations. It will focus on the following:
>Distributed Renewable Energy Generation and Microgrids
>Municipal Solid Waste Management
>Inclusive Technologies for the Differently Abled
>Agriculture, Water, Disaster Management, Health and Education
>Emerging Technologies for Humanitarian Applications
81 selected papers will be presented at the conference.
A ‘Community Engagement Workshop’ for development professionals, community workers, and environmental activists will also be held along with the conference. It will have experts talking about their experiences, viewpoints, and suggestions and explaining some of the IEEE initiatives in these areas.
Unconvention |L, a social entrepreneurship meet, is another event that will be held along with the main conference. It is jointly organized by Villgro and Innovation experience and will present inspiring stories of successful social entrepreneurs.
