State Government Sanction to Boost Industrial Zone at Kakkanad

The industrial zone at Kakkanad, includes the upcoming Smart City, the IT hub Infopark Kochi, and the promising KINFRA Export Promotion Industrial Park, will have improved connectivity and water supply by mid-2015, thanks to an administrative sanction for projects worth Rs. 40 crore accorded by the Government of Kerala.

The projects are expected to be in motion by March 2014 and completed within 15 months. The funds earmarked for these projects will be based on actual requirement and tender or e-tender. The project proposes a 30-million-litre-per-day water-supply system for Smart city, Infopark Kochi, and Kinfra Industrial Park and construction of a four-lane (1.5 Km) approach road.

Allianz to Launch Eco-Friendly Projects in Technopark

Technopark Trivandrum-based Allianz will launch two environment-friendly projects—Bird Point and Think Point—in the park campus. The projects will be launched as part of the company’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

Bird Point is designed as a ‘dedicated space for birds’ inside the campus. It will have ten bird huts, three bird baths, and three feeders. On the other hand, Think Point is an initiative to provide park benches.

Taurus Investment Holdings Wins Technopark Trivandrum’s ‘Swiss Challenge’

Technopark’s Swiss Challenge bid got the proposal submitted by Boston real-estate development firm Taurus Investment Holdings, along with its partners Hansji Corporation and Rose Global LLC, has won Technopark Trivandrum’s ‘Swiss Challenge’ and will be responsible for creating a business district in Technopark Phase III.

The company had submitted a proposal to develop around 2,500,000 sq ft of built-up space on a 90-year lease in January this year. The proposed investment is over Rs. 1200 crore. The space will include 15–20 lakh sq ft of IT office space, hotels, shopping facilities, and a convention centre.

The first phase is expected to begin in June 2014 and commissioned January 2017.

IRCTC launches ‘e-Wallet’ for Easy Booking

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched ‘e-wallet,’ an innovative scheme that aims to make ticket booking an easy and hassle-free experience for users.

Under the scheme, customers will have an account with the IRCTC and the deposit money can be used to book e-tickets. This is not only time-saving but also hassle-free.

Only PAN-verified users can register in this scheme. In case a ticket is cancelled, the refund will be credited to the user’s e-wallet account next day.

Minister Promises New IT Initiatives in the State


Speaking at a meet-the-press programme organised by the Kesari Memorial Journalist Trust in Trivandrum, Kerala Information Technology Minister P. K. Kunhalikutty said that the State Government was planning to expand the scope of Akshaya centres by enabling them to handle various banking services and working on an incentive plan to promote private IT parks. Discussions were already on with certain banks to develop the Akshaya centres into ‘bank kiosks’ that would provide services including e-banking.


He also said that the State’s IT exports were growing and that the IT sector had emerged as a brand. Kerala was placed second in achieving e-governance targets. It had adopted e-procurement and digital documentation.
